Bio

I am a researcher with a multidisciplinary background, and expertise in environmental institutions and governance.

I was born and grew up in Brazil, where I received a BSc (Hons) in Oceanography from the Federal University of Rio Grande (1996), and MSc in Geography from the University of Sao Paulo (2000). In 2007, I completed a PhD in Environmental Science at the University of Wollongong, Australia.

My academic background in both environmental and social sciences was instrumental in developing an appreciation for the interlinkages in social-ecological systems. My research has focused on the social and institutional dimensions of environmental governance. I am particularly interested in how systems of social norms and rules (known as institutions) can be designed and changed to promote improved environmental governance. My other interests include photography , travelling, languages, and eastern-related teachings and practices.
